Strategies for Online Tutoring and Teaching– Taught by Owen Cantrell– Writing Studio–12pm, Tuesday, October 16th– Troy Moore Library, 9th floor General Classroom Building

As more tutoring and teaching moves increasingly online, it is important to maintain the same standards and practices that have best served teachers in face-to-face environments. This  Writing Studio presentation will focus on best practices and pedagogy when working in synchronous online tutoring environments. Library resources on this topic include the following: Discussion-based online teaching to enhance student learning, theory, practice, and assessment; Online teaching in the digital age; and The online teaching survival guide: simple and practical tips.  Additionally, the  Exchange, the University’s technology resource center for GSU faculty and academic support staff, provides training and support in the technology used in online courses.

Owen Cantrell has a B.A. in Philosophy from Miami University and is currently working towards a Ph.D. in English at Georgia State.His research interests include 19th century American literature and culture, with an emphasis on humor and the history of ideas. He is also the Co-Associate Director of the GSU Writing Studio and is the writing curriculum director of E.nopi Alpharetta. He likes working with students early in the writing process and especially on organization and development.
