Mobile phone to be primary internet link in 2020

A survey of internet leaders, activists, and analysts shows they expect major tech advances as the phone becomes a primary device for online access, voice-recognition improves, artificial and virtual reality become more embedded in everyday life, and the architecture of the internet itself improves. That is one of the key findings in a new report, The Future of the Internet III (PDF file), based on a survey of experts by the Pew Internet and American Life Project that asked respondents to assess predictions about technology and its roles in the year 2020….

GIL Catalog Upgrade scheduled, December 19, 6pm

The upgrade will begin around 6 p.m. and should be complete prior to the beginning of the following business day (Sat. Dec. 20th).  During the upgrade the system will not be available.  Users needing to check library holdings should try the universal catalog at http://giluc.usg.edu.

Investext moved to Thomson Reuters

Investext, previously published by Gale Cengage, is now published by Thomson Reuters.  Investext now uses the Thomson Research interface.

Ageline, Philosopher’s Index and Social Work Abstracts now available via EBSCOhost

The library now subscribes to Ageline, Philosopher’s Index and Social Work Abstracts through EBSCOhost.  We previously subscribed to these via the Ovid SP interface.  Access to these resources is available through our list of electronic resources and databases.

Monday and Wednesday from 1PM - 6PM

Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30AM - 2:30PM

EndNote X2 Update

EndNote X2 users can install the update by using the EndNote menu (Help->EndNote Program Updates).

GIL Express service suspended Dec. 15th - Jan. 5th

GIL Express service will be temporarily unavailable while the GIL online system is upgraded.

  • Online GIL Express requests suspended at midnight, December 15th.
  • Walk-up GIL Express borrowing Suspended at 6 p.m., December 15th.
  • You will not be able to borrow from other University of Georgia libraries in person.
  • GIL Express will resume on Jan.5, 2009.

During the interruption in service, you may borrow books using interlibrary loan (except December 22rd – January 1st).
