It’s tax season!

March 12th, 2009 by Amy

Doing tax research? Use the database, RIA Checkpoint. From the library homepage, select Find Articles & more; then find databases by title. Click on “R” and RIA is #6.
RIA Checkpoint is a database containing primary tax documents and secondary analysis for the areas of federal, state & local, estate planning, pensions & benefits, international, and payroll taxation. Primary contents include the full text of tax legislation dating back to 1996, current code and code histories back to 1990, regulations, and IRS administrative rulings.
For personal taxes, http://www.irs.gov/ is the place to visit for federal tax info and forms. And don’t forget your state taxes - the Georgia Department of Revenue at http://www.etax.dor.ga.gov/

Art at the Alpharetta Center Library

February 5th, 2009 by Amy

The Alpharetta Center Library is pleased to announce an exhibition of the art work of Brenda Carroll. Brenda has two children, one husband, a part-time job and lots of middle-aged-mortgage-paying angst, which she pours into her art.

She considers herself a suburban folk-artist, and defines this genre as “art created by untrained artists who generally craft works to match their sofas.”

Brenda was raised in rural locations, but has had to focus on more suburban subject matter after losing all her rural “credentials” after an unfortunate possum incident. (Let’s just say the possum won. Sorta.)

Brenda began painting as a stress relief when her oldest child was born with disabilities. Many of her works have been sold at charity auctions for organizations that support children with special needs.
